The Harvey House

Welcome to The Harvey House

The Harvey House is a Berg Design job that involved both Architectural Design and Construction Management.

This project started as a 23.8 Acres of land. The only original structure is a Deer Blind that the previous owner used for hunting. Upon completion, the property contained a 5,300 Sq.Ft. House.

I have often mentioned to my clients that the word Berg in German stands for "Rock" or "Mountain". I believe that I design everything "like a Rock". Well in this case the project began with a lot of Rock.

When we bagan excavating for the foundation we struck bedrock about 4'-0" down into the ground. We found that it was mostly comprised of shale, which we could relocate to another area of the site, with an Excavator & Dump truck. It is amazing to think that what was expected to be about $6,000.00 worth of excavation became over $20,000.00 worth of rock relocation.

Once we were able to start grading the site and compacting the gravel for the Foundation Footings we were excited!

Things started moving quickly at that point. Things always seem to move quickly during the rough framing and through the weather tight construction period.

The flow of materials is always an important factor. As we were completing the installation of the foundation there was a Hurricane that caused major destruction in South Florida. All of the Plywood from accross the country was beeing re-routed to Florida. I quickly went and purchased all of the plywood that we needed and had it dilevered to the jobsite from the local lumber yards the next day. This quick action made it possible for us to complete the project without a pause.

I can clearly remember the progress from that point through the completion of the project. All of the details came together with regard to all of the finishes. Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Fixtures, Flooring, Stairway Railings, Building layout and the owners satisfaction all came together.

After all that the 500'-0" deep Well we had drilled ran Dry. So we drilled another well, to 1,500'-0" deep, that still runs well today (no pun intended). We redirected the original well for Landscaping purposes and the other well for supplying the House.

Now the 10 Room House with 5 Bedrooms, 3 1/2 Bathrooms, an Oversized 2 Car Garage and enclosed porch will be enjoyed for a long time.
